What to do! Zeldman got Facebook!

18 September 2007 11:13:31

My world has changed.  My internet rock, the one I knew would never change has changed today.  Jeffery Zeldman got Facebook.  I’m not sure what I am to do.  I don’t really feel that I need another place to go online and waste time.  I spend enough time staring off into the deep white digital ocean.

I’ve withheld from Facebook for no real reason.  Just plain principle I guess.  I’m a web designer.  I have a website, I have an email address (multiple, in fact), I have a telephone number.  If “friends” or “colleagues” need to find me I’m only one result away at Google.  That isn’t to say that my friends or colleagues ever looked me up those ways; in fact they’ve probably never looked outside of Facebook or MySpace.  Still, my principles have remained.  Heck, even my wife is a Facebook regular.  But I am not.  I will not….yet Zeldman has.

I still don’t think I want to.  I probably won’t.  We’ll see…

I hear yah Dave. Stay strong. Don’t do it.

    I’m with Jake.

I did try it and can verify that it is a frustrating waste of time. I wanted to keep in touch with students over summer break so I signed up for a Facebook account, but there are better ways.

A blog is a much better way. XFN can be used to define relationships in much the same way it is done on Facebook, if that is desirable.

I’m sorry to hear that Zeldman has gone over to the dark side… :)
