Ah, Politics

8 November 2006 18:03:09

So the Democrats took back the House in yesterday’s elections. What can I say? “Big deal” sounds about right. The process of democracy in our great nation still seems to function properly, but in reality (to most of us) a change in control just means a different set of agendas. Agendas that are generally ineffective. Agendas that cost billions of dollars. Agendas that don’t relate to most of our lives.

Don’t get me wrong. I voted and our country is still the best place in the world to live (by my humble opinion anyway; and no, I haven’t lived outside of the U.S.) I am just upset that any political party in control forgets who they were actually elected by.

I wish there was a better way. May I suggest campaign spending limits around the $2,000 mark? Yes, I want anyone to have a chance at politics. It just doesn’t seem right that political campaigns cost into the millions of dollars. Maybe then we’d see fewer of the ridiculous television ads slamming one candidate or another. Maybe then, politicians would actually have a bit of financial wisdom when they get into office and start spending my tax dollars. Maybe then we’d have a bit less national debt, a few less problems and a lot less division.

But I dream, I know.
