Laundry Melodrama

3 September 2006 16:11:08

Yesterday, Erica and I did our laundry together for the first time…ever. Kind of a big step in the grand scheme of things. I mean, her underwear and my underwear shared the same wash water. That’s pretty huge.

Everything was going great until Erica started sorting the first load to come out of the dryer. Right now most of you are thinking: uh-oh, the two of you have different “techniques” for putting your laundry away and the difference lead to a disagreement, which lead to a fight. I’m glad to say that didn’t happen. Nope, instead, Erica noticed there were some black spots on the first pair of pants she pulled from the pile. And also on the next pair, and the shirt after that. In fact, almost everything in the load was full of black spots. Ink. Black ballpoint pen ink. One of us accidentally let a pen get into our dirty laundry.

So, our first laundry sharing experience was marred by black ink. What a bummer. I couldn’t stop saying “I’m sorry.” It was just such a big downer for me. After all, I only had three shirts in the load and two of those were dark in color, so the damage to my wardrobe was pretty minor. Not so for my beautiful princess. Pinks, yellows, blues; jeans, shirts, athletic pants, almost everything was full of ink. Here is this huge problem I can’t fix. I mean no matter how hard I might try, there is NO way I’ll get all that ink out. And I certainly don’t have the cash to let her go on a little recovery shopping trip to the mall. It’s just going to have to be the way it is. Mister Fix-it just can’t fix it this time. I hate that.

Thankfully, we were both in pretty good spirits about it. Erica took it a lot better than I expected her to. I am so blessed by this girl who can easily adapt to difficult circumstances. Just seeing her reaction made me feel so much better about it. Thanks, Lord, for your sovereign control in the midst of our daily melodrama.
