Farewell Beautiful Truck

It’s been almost a week since my beautiful new truck was demolished by a missed yield sign two blocks form my house. Yes, last Wednesday an older gentleman failed to notice a yield sign and collided into my truck causing severe damage to both vehicles. What is most interesting about the whole situation is that I will more than likely be stuck with having to pay for something in the situation.
Either I file with my own insurance policy pay and my deductible (in which case my rates are bound to go up) or I wait to see what the other insurance company says which will probably fall under the we’ll pay x percent you pay they remainder—because you were at the scene in the first place. Then there’s always the chance that either company will total the vehicle (almost $10,000 in damages to mine) and stick me with part of the loan since I’ve only made three payments.
What gives? Why do I pay an insurance premium every month if in the end I’m just paying for the faults of another anyway? Why do I pay insurance at all? I’d have a truckload of money in the bank right now that I could easily just pay for the damages to my vehicle myself. Why do I even question these things? There’s no way to change it.
I guess in the end, that’s the underlying problem to it all. I can’t change it. No matter what I still have to have insurance and I will continue to have to throw my money away to do so. Best to just get over it.
