“Abstractions and Simplifications From Life”

28 November 2005 11:10:52

After much anticipation and even more work “Abstractions and Simplifications From Life” is ready for public review. The show features a collection of paintings, monotypes, mixed-media pieces and a few sculpture/installations created by Mandy Timm and yours truly.

The show is on display at the Pump House in La Crosse, Wisconsin from November 29 (that’s tomorrow!) through January 7, 2006. If you happen to be in the area this Friday, December 2, come visit us at the opening reception from 5:00 until 7:00 in the evening.

I was able to complete two new paintings for the show, “Dam” and “Autumn Porch”. I started a third painting but quickly found that my working style was morphing into something new and exciting on this piece so I decided (because of time restraints) to hold off completing it until after this show was up. My work up until this last piece has always been very abstract, having little or no relation to realism of any kind. With this piece there is still a similar abstractive style, but the work is exceptionally realistic—one can quickly recognize the subject of the work.

I’m almost as excited about the change in my work as I am about the show. I’ll try to get pictures posted of everything as soon as I can. Do come and see the show in person if you can!
