Personal Philosophy - Part I

3 July 2005 14:28:13

Since my first art courses at college in the fall of 1999, I have developed and maintained a personal “philosophy” relating my art, my work, and my relationship with Jesus Christ. Something of an unstated statement of beliefs, this mental framework has influenced everything I do creatively.

For example, the foundation of my whole theory stems from the principle that my art and work do not need to explicitly express my faith in Jesus Christ. Rather, it is my belief that, as a follower of the Biblical representation of Christ, my life (and therefore my art and my work) will inherently express Christ’s love and grace to those around me.

From this fundamental statement, I have developed an entire worldview that reflects this idea. I have come to realize there are (now that I am overtly expressing this framework) both positives and negatives to this personal philosophy—benefits and downfalls that I will most certainly touch on in later posts. But for now it is safe to assume that I have recognized the need to develop a comprehensive understanding of my own beliefs about art in order to become a better artist and to create better art.
